Visiting Critics Vienna 2021

During an intense 10 day program, the participants of Visiting Critics Vienna 2021 organized by Verein K have discovered institutions, galleries, the events Curated By, Steirischer Herbst and have had personal meetings with artists, curators and other actors of the Austrian art scene. Time for a discussion about their perception of art in Austria and their conception of criticism. 

Highlights of this year’s curated by and steirischer herbst festivals, diagnosis of current commonplaces within contemporary arts, the spectrum of critical methodologies applied, such as dissociations of criticism from description and serviceability are some of the topics that this public panel aims to discuss with the four international visiting critics.

Moderator: 
Lisa Stuckey (AT) is a researcher and critic in Contemporary Arts and Cultural Studies. Currently she is a postdoctoral fellow at University of Applied Arts Vienna and lecturer in research methodologies at the University of Art and Design Linz. In 2020, her PhD thesis Law on Trial was awarded the Prize for Scientific Work by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her texts appeared in, amongst others, Camera Austria International, all-over Magazin, Journal for Artistic Research, Zeitschrift für Medienwissenschaft, and Arts of the Working Class.

Verein K is an independent arts and cultural organization from Vienna, founded in January 2018. Verein K focuses on projects in the field of contemporary art and culture connecting diverse cultural and social interests: critical approaches to contemporary art, creating curatorial platforms as well as enabling innovative cultural practices including diverse social groups.
