Visiting Curators Vienna 2018
Visiting Curators VIENNA is a curators-in-residence program for five international established curators. In the course of a ten-day program 24. September – 3. October 2018, the selected participants will be given comprehensive and profound insights into the contemporary Viennese art scene, with the aim that the participating curators curate Austrian artists in their next project outside of Austria within the upcoming two years and thereby present the Austrian contemporary art scene internationally.
With the wide-ranging exchange with established curators, artists, academics and other representatives of the Viennese contemporary art scene, Visiting Curators VIENNA offers six curators an ideal supporting program for the development of lasting network, which can serve as the basis for future international cooperation in the field of contemporary art and culture.
The residency program will consist of artists’ studio visits, museums, off spaces, art collections, galleries guided tour through selected exhibitions, meetings with other critics and curators as well as visiting art fairs (vennacontemporary, Parallel).
The program will be created by the selection comittee as well as by the Verein K team both for the whole group as well individually for each participant according to her/his requests.
The selection committee (Marianne Dobner, curator mumok, Vienna and Jelena Petrović, a feminist scholar, theorist and art worker, Belgrade) will make a selection from the submitted applications and make a selection of participating artists and curators from the Viennese contemporary art scene.
The professional background of the applicants, their geographical origin and gender balance will be taken into account.
The networking and bringing together of different experts of the arts and industry, Visiting Curators VIENNA aims to make a lasting contribution to Vienna as an art and cultural location by providing the Viennese scene and the curators with experience and contacts for future activities, thereby underlining Vienna‘s international perception as an important center of contemporary art is further strengthened.
The program is supported by the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the City of Vienna.
